Tank Guard™ is a two-part hypochlorous acid (HOCl) cleaning
system engineered specifically for AquaFire® water vapor fireplaces. Sold as a
kit, every cleaning uses both bottles:
Part 1 – Flush:
a deep-cleaning quart added to a drained tank. It breaks down organic buildup and mineral deposits from hard water, removes odors, and clears the mist maker, mist tubes, and internal plumbing. Agitate, soak 15 minutes, drain.
Part 2 – Fortify:
a maintenance dose poured into the refilled tank. It stays active during regular operation, keeping water quality high and controlling biofilm between cleanings.
Formulated at 500 PPM HOCl. Non-toxic, non-corrosive, made
in the USA.
HOCl is the ideal chemistry for a device that turns tank water into room-filling vapor:
Naturally derived and body-identical.
Hypochlorous acid is a naturally occurring compound produced by white blood cells to fight infections — the same agent your own immune system uses.
Safe around the home.
Unlike bleach or alcohol-based disinfectants, HOCl is gentle on the skin, non-irritating, and safe for use around children, pets, and food surfaces. It breaks down into harmless saline, reducing environmental impact. This matters uniquely for a vapor fireplace: whatever is in the tank ends up in the air you breathe.
Gentle on components.
Regular bleach (sodium hypochlorite) is a harsh chemical that can be corrosive and release harmful fumes, while HOCl works effectively at much lower concentrations, is gentler on surfaces, and doesn't leave harmful residues. HOCl is an EPA-registered, hospital-grade disinfectant that is as effective as bleach (if not more) at removing biofilm, and much safer for metals — critical for the ultrasonic mist maker and metal plumbing.
Proven against biofilm in water systems.
Biofilm is the core enemy in any standing-water device. Biofilm exists to protect bacteria from harsh disinfectants such as bleach, which is why pouring bleach in a tank underperforms. HOCl-based products are already the standard for comparable
equipment — dental water lines use HOCl to remove biofilm and disinfect in minutes versus hours for traditional disinfectants. Research on electrolyzed
HOCl water shows it disrupts the biofilm’s protective EPS matrix, with electron microscopy confirming enhanced breakup and detachment of biofilm after treatment.
No fumes, no odor.
HOCl lacks the pungent smell of bleach and releases no toxic fumes during use — a fireplace is a living-room centerpiece, and cleaning it shouldn’t smell like a pool.
- Two-part system: deep clean (Flush) + continuous protection (Fortify)

Hard water leaves mineral deposits and buildup in the tank, mist tubes, and internal plumbing of a water vapor fireplace. Routine cleaning with Tank Guard protects those components from damage — minimizing maintenance and extending the life of your fireplace.

Protects the tank, tubes, and plumbing that keep the system running for years.

A simple cleaning twice a year replaces repairs and part replacements.
